Installation Of Outboard Motor

Gasoline trailers, usually called outboard engines, are widely used as power devices on small high-speed fiber-reinforced plastic boats (referred to as FRP boats) due to their small size, light weight, high power, simple structure and installation.

1.Outboard motor power matching

The design power of the boat should be known before the installation of the outboard motor. Most boats have stipulated the maximum allowable power and load. When the outboard motor is used in the case of exceeding the limit power of the boat, the following consequences will occur: the boat loses control when the boat is sailing at high speed; the stern plate overload causes the dynamic stability of the boat to change; the hull ruptures, such as the stern plate of the boat Cracks occurred in the parts, longitudinal cracks occurred in the bottom of the ship amidships, and even the keel broke.

2.The installation position and fixing method of the outboard motor

1. Install the outboard motor on the center vertical line of the stern. In the case of two outboard motors, the distance between them should be more than 580mm. If the engine cannot be positioned correctly on the stern plate, it will cause the ship to roll, which will affect the stability of the ship’s heading, and the rudder will be deflected when sailing.

2. Under normal taxiing and operating conditions, the installation height of the outboard motor should be such that the anti-vortex recessed panel is located between 0-25mm below the stern flat keel.

The engine installation height is too high, it will cause the propeller to spin and reduce the efficiency, and may cause the engine overspeed, insufficient cooling water, and cause the engine to overheat and damage the engine; if the installation height is too low, it will increase the sailing resistance and reduce the engine propulsion efficiency. For small boats with special purposes, such as low-speed boats used for heavy load, in order to avoid the loss of propulsion efficiency caused by the cavitation of the propeller, the installation height allows the anti-vortex concave panel to be located between 25--50mm below the flat keel. For non-commercial boats used for sports and water skiing, in order to increase the speed, the installation height allows the anti-vortex concave panel to be located between 0--50mm above the flat keel.

3. After the outboard motor is correctly positioned on the boat, use through bolts, clamping bolts (provided parts) or other equivalent measures to reliably fix the outboard motor on the stern cover. Sealant should be used at the perforated part to prevent leakage of the stern plate, and make sure that the nut is tightened. After the running-in period of the outboard engine is over, the nuts should be tightened again, and the stern plate should be inspected regularly for leaks and whether the nuts are loose.
